In the School of Dentistry, the lectures and practicum, which are positioned as pillars of education in the School of Dentistry, are designed so that students acquire the knowledge, techniques, and attitudes required of dental care professionals. The journey to becoming a dentist is not an easy one. Students, however, can successfully complete the course of study as long as they maintain a positive attitude to solve problems. At Kyushu Dental University, all of our faculty and staff stand behind our students who are making every effort to become dental practitioners.
Lectures and practicum are designed so that students acquire the knowledge, techniques, and attitudes required of dental care professionals, which are positioned as the pillars of education in the School of Dentistry. Introductory courses to dentistry, as well as basic medical science, are the main focus of the program for the first- and second-year students. The curriculum for the third- and fourth-year students includes preparatory classes for clinical training, in addition to basic education. Students in the latter half of the fourth year must take the nationally-standardized achievement tests (CBT and OSCE) for dental students in Japan. The fifth- and sixth-year students can join clinical trainings at Kyushu Dental University Hospital and see actual patients, provided that they passed the achievement tests. At the end of clinical training, students are required to take evaluation tests on clinical competence, as well as graduation examinations. Finally, students in the sixth year take the National Examination for Dental Practitioners.
